The story of Casa Marin begins with its founder, owner and chief winemaker Maria Luz Marin’s dream – to produce top quality, world class wines.  In 2000, against the advice of friends and colleagues she decided to establish her winery in Lo Abarca, a sleepy little town in the San Antonio Valley west of Santiago.  Despite warnings about problems with the chosen location, she has been successful in creating a winery whose bottlings have been praised throughout the world and have helped position Chile in a distinct light with its high quality, high value wines.

The town of Lo Abarca is just 6 kilometres from the cold Pacific Ocean and is covered by a constant morning fog during both the summer and winter months.  It’s also a very windy area with cool temperatures during the grape growing season.  However, these conditions make the vines produce superior quality fruit.  The harvests are not abundant but the vines that grow here are strong with healthy grapes and greater flavour and mineral concentration that add unique qualities and character to the wines.

On offer this week is the 2015 Casa Marin Cartagena Sauvignon Blanc.  I had the privilege of visiting this winery a few years ago.  After tasting the entire range of wines poured by winemaker Maria Luz Marin,  I had to agree with the wine guru Robert Parker who has suggested that Casa Marin is the best producer of white wine in Chile.  This is an exquisitely crafted wine – perfect to toast the arrival of Spring!  To my palate this wine shows the acidity, herbal, and mineral complexity of a Sancerre with the fruity exuberance of a classic New Zealand “Savvy”.   I HIGHLY recommend this wine.

The 2015 Casa Marin Cartagena Sauvignon Blanc is available for immediate delivery.  We only have 40 cases of this superb Sauvignon Blanc available.  To order e-mail or call at 416-463-4677.

This Sauvignon Blanc is from the second label Cartagena which is intended to provide a value counterpoint to the premium estate labels.
