Tasting Notes

The 2019 Napa Valley wine is a blend of Howell Mountain fruit (78%) and valley floor fruit that is purchased (22%). This (sometimes!) makes the Napa bottling more approachable for near term consumption. Like the Howell, this is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 100% new French oak barrels for 32 months.

The wine is juicy, yet fresh and balanced on the palate, showing aromas of red cassis, just-ripe red fruit, and subtle cedar notes. The tannins are soft but dense, conveying the cooler air of both Coombsville and Howell Mountain.

“The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is a powerful, tannic wine. In some vintages, the Napa Valley bottling is quite accessible, but not here. Swaths of tannin wrap around a core of dark fruit, gravel, spice, dried flowers, lavender and charred earth are pushed forward, with firm, chocolatey tannins that wrap it all together.
